Recovery Coaching

While working as a therapist at A New Path Marin, I was introduced to the field of recovery coaching. A New Path was both a clinical and recovery coaching program for young men leaving inpatient treatment centers and attempting to “launch” back into the “real world.” A New Path had been successfully helping young men re-integrate back into society for over seven years when I joined the team. Early recovery is hard enough without having to learn how to live independently for the first time. I quickly saw how imparting these vital life skills was a key to these young men’s recoveries.

After moving to Shine a Light Addiction Specialists as Program Director, I took what I had learned at A New Path and added my own innovations. More specifically, a strengths based goal setting component. Using the research on Recovery Capital and the Gallup Strengthsfinder, I was able to to determine a client's recovery strengths. Combining this with the research on Strengths Based Goal Setting allowed me to determine the most useful and achievable goals for each client.

My passion for recovery coaching comes from the tremendous impact I have seen it have in my clients' lives. So many young people have the willingness necessary to achieve long-term recovery, but fall short again and again. Willingness without the proper tools, skills, motivation, and accountability is often not enough. That’s where I come in!

In addition to helping you set and achieve strengths based goals in a manageable step by step process, I offer assistance in all of the following areas:

  • Setting Boundaries

  • Assertive communication (learning to identify and communicate one’s needs)

  • Mindfulness and other spiritual practices

  • CBT and DBT anxiety reduction skills

  • Navigating relationships (family, friends, sponsor, work, romance, etc.)

  • Create a weekly calendar filled with productive activities

  • Develop a work/life/recovery balance

  • Resume building, job search, mock interviews, etc.

  • Learn to create a budget using Mint

  • Rebuild your credit score
